Turning Back in the Day of Battle

Psalm 78, verse 9, says these words, "The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle."

You know, this verse presents an interesting picture. It's a picture of a people who took the time to put on defensive armor, to take up weapons of offense in their hands, then suddenly decide to use neither.

You have to wonder, was it just a game to them? Were they training just to occupy their time while fighting a fictitious war in their minds? What a strange and odd sight they must've been to those who saw them. I can't help but wonder how heaven is now writing about us. With all the seminars on spiritual warfare that we seem to have in our time, are they wondering where our prayer meetings are? Are they listening for our voices crying out for the lost in the day of battle?

It's time to pray.
