The Fool
Psalm 14:1–2 says, "The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God."
I used to believe that this scripture refers almost solely to the atheist and such like. But now I feel that its truth runs much deeper than that. It doesn't necessarily mean that the person mentioned here believes that there is no God, but rather that he lives like there is no God, who has the right to govern his life. By living for himself, using people for his own gain, and ignoring the suffering of others, he denies the reality of God before all people in his daily encounters. He wrongly believes that there is no ultimate accountability for this. That's why the Bible calls him a fool.
It's time to pray.
